ADHD is a hot topic of conversation at the time of writing this article, especially in women being diagnosed late/self-diagnosed.
Until recently, women have sometimes been labelled as having depression or anxiety when it may have been ADHD all along.
If you have ADHD or have ADHD-like symptoms, then this article may answer your question of “How can I help my ADHD?”
ADHD is officially known as Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, where the brain works differently, and dopamine is used up more quickly. Discover more in-depth information on the ADHD website here – https://adhduk.co.uk/
Dopamine is the neurotransmitter for reward, also known as the “feel-good” hormone. It gives a sense of pleasure and motivation, which gives the person a sense of pleasure. Quickly releasing dopamine can lead you to have mood swings, commonly depression and anxiety.
Additional ADHD traits include brain fog, hyperfocus, procrastination, hyperactivity, and struggles with completing tasks.
Mood-booster and Dopamine for your ADHD through Laughter Yoga
Conventional medications for ADHD may be suitable for many, but holistic practices such as Laughter Yoga can help.
One of the ways to produce dopamine quickly and get the essential motivation for your ADHD is laughing yoga (Laughter Yoga is simulated laughter sounds with deep Yogic breathing).
Within 3-5 minutes, the neurotransmitter dopamine has been boosted into the body, and the participant feels happier and more motivated.
With quickly released dopamine, regular practice of Laughter Yoga at least once a day will be beneficial.
In addition to dopamine, mood-boosting chemicals like serotonin, oxytocin, and endorphins bring a welcome happiness boost and positive energy.
Personal story of ADHD
For myself, I went through being self-diagnosed with ADHD in 2023 after struggling with depression and anxiety in 2016. Working with other ADHDers, I’ve discovered there are additional benefits beyond the mood boost. Some of these will be discussed in future articles on this website.
How can you get extra dopamine with ADHD in women?
It is common for women with ADHD to gain dopamine the easy way by splurging on shopping (at the risk of running up massive debt or credit card bills). Other forms of splurging in ADHD are alcohol or drug use, which can cause addictions and the consequences of those. Do you relate to one or more of these activities?
Dopamine can be created by starting a new hobby for a little while. Usually, it takes a short time for boredom to kick in because of attention deficit. The ADHDer may purchase everything required to start said hobby or activity, which may be forgotten almost immediately.
If you could obtain dopamine in some way rather than ADHD medication, then motivation would increase, and you would be more likely to start the task/project/job required.
In a corporate workplace, productivity can fluctuate in fits and starts, from task paralysis to hyperfocus. This can also impact diary management, timekeeping, trust and project management.
At home, productivity can affect home maintenance, tidiness, cleanliness, self-worth, attending medical appointments, and self-compassion.
With the opportunity to practise Laughter Yoga through online Laughter Yoga sessions, take part in YouTube videos, or attend in-person sessions at your organisation, you can receive dopamine to help relieve the symptoms of ADHD.
How does Laughter Yoga work and help ADHD?
In summary, Laughter Yoga can help boost dopamine levels, replacing quickly lost dopamine.
